Turning Likes into Love

You’re pumped! You’ve started a new business and now you’re ready to tell the world. You’re watching the “likes” ticker on your shiny new Facebook Business page like a hawk – waiting for your page to go viral.

Reality check… as you’ve probably noticed, the process is a little more like watching water boil.

While you’re waiting, try these free tactics – some of which will provide a little instant gratification while others will increase your reach in the long run.

Invite your Friends

A lot of people set up business pages and don’t invite anyone to like their page. This is the low-hanging fruit you should grab immediately. On the right-hand side of your page, there’s a button to “Invite Friends”. Yes, yes, yes! Invite them all!

Share your Page to your Personal Facebook Timeline

No, we’re not speaking Greek. Go to your Business page. At the top, click on the “Share” button. A new dialogue box pops up. Write a crafty message enticing your friends to visit your new page and like it. Take it to the next level by asking them also to share your post. Now we’re making progress!

Like Other Business Pages

Make a list of any and all other businesses that are relevant to your business. Also make a list of your friends’ and family members’ businesses. Visit those pages on Facebook, click on the three dots underneath the cover photo, and select “Like as Your Page.” Chances are, they’ll follow you back.

Like other Businesses’ Posts

Devote a minimum of 15 minutes per day to scrolling through Facebook and liking and commenting on other Pages’ posts. Go to your Business page and on the right-hand side, there’s an option to “See Page Feeds”. Click and you’ll see posts from the Business pages you followed (in the previous step). Like and provide thoughtful comments as often as possible.

If you really like a post, share it! You can share as yourself or as your Business page. Click the “Share” icon underneath the post. A dialogue post pops up that says “Share…” and one that says “Share to a Page”. You can include a personal message or simply repost. You’ll start getting noticed and folks will follow you back.

Cross Promotion

If you’re part of groups or pages that promote your business, be sure to promote those pages. For example, if your products are available in a local retail store, you should invite your friends to like the store’s page. If you’re part of a local service, community or service organization you should invite friends to like those pages. This increases the ways which potential customers can discover your business. It’s all about collaboration!
